Freedom Boys Volleyball Head Coach Gina McFerren picked up multiple honors last week after an incredible 2019 season – which included a #1 State Ranking, number #18 National Ranking, and a State Championship.

The American Volleyball Coaches Association named Coach McFerren the The United States Marine Corps/AVCA High School Boys Coach of the Year.

Coach McFerren was also named the 2019 Florida Dairy Farmers Boys Volleyball Coach of the Year.

GINA MCFERREN FAST FACTS

• Began coaching career in 1986 at Oak Ridge High School before becoming the Patriots’ head coach in 2014
• Went 31-2 and won the 2019 FHSAA Boys State Championship
• It was the school’s first team state championship
• No. 1 state ranking and 18th nationally according to MaxPreps
• Defeated 16 programs ranked in the MaxPreps Top-25
• Lost only 10 sets all season
• Picked up her 500th career win on March 28th against Lake Highland Prep
• She took over a program that won three matches the previous season
• Registered five consecutive 20+ win seasons and 30+ victories in the last two
• Has an overall record of 147-32 at Freedom High School (.782 winning percentage)
