Athletic Director – Robert Rego
Robert Rego leads the Athletic Department at Freedom High School after rejoining the Freedom Staff as an Administrative Dean in 2018. Mr. Rego is currently in his 30th year as an educator, and over the course of his career has served in various athletic roles as a Head Coach and Athletic Administrator.
During his first tenure at Freedom High School, Mr. Rego served as Head Basketball Coach from 2007 -2013, where he led the program to its first playoff appearance in school history and finished top 3 in the Metro Conference during the 2011-12 season. Prior to arriving at Freedom in 2007, he served as Assistant Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach at Olympia High School, and before returning to Freedom in 2018, he served as Athletic Director and head Basketball Coach at South Lake High School in Groveland, Florida.
Mr. Rego’s educational philosophy is that, “‘Demographics do not equal destiny; all humans can learn and over time and – with focused effort – always improve.’ I whole-heartedly believe athletics provides unique opportunities by which students can learn and develop valuable life skills. There is no question that winning is important! However winning is a byproduct of meticulous preparation, laser focus, and maximum effort at all times! Expectations are always high, great effort will always be respected and appreciated, and excuses will NEVER be tolerated! My goal as a teacher and coach is to help my student-athletes grow in confidence and achieve at levels they may not have known were possible. I try to treat all my student-athletes like my own; with love (sometimes tough love), and understanding.”
Mr. Rego is married to the talented and beautiful Tiffany Mayhugh, and has two kids – Kirsten (21) and Rhys (11).
